Fresh air system is very important in the decoration of a new house. There are rigid pipe and soft pipe (hose) for the fresh air system. Let’s talk about them.
Soft Pipe
The common fresh air system hose is also called duct hose or ventilation hose. Normally it’s made from composite. There is a PVC protection cover outside and steel wire inside to support the hose.
Advantages of soft pipe:
1. Compared with rigid pipe, it’s easy to install, so the construction period will be short
2. It’s flexible, so when need to change the pipe, or change the inlet and outlet, it will be easy and convenient.
3. It has perfect malleability, so it can close to the ceiling and wall
Besides the advantages for decoration, it has many advantages itself. One of the most important is that it’s flame retardant. Besides, it has excellent chemical and abrasion resistance.
However, it also has disadvantages. First, it’s easy to be scratched and cut, because it’s not so tough. Second, the inner is not smooth. This cause the large windage and the ventilation effect will be a big discount.
Rigid pipe
Rigid pipe is adding other material into PVC and improve the hardness, heat resistance, malleability and flexibility.
Advantage of rigid pipe:
1. Solid and durable
2. Long lifespan, which could be several decades
3. Smooth inner, small windage
4. Can transfer the wind far away from house
However, rigid pipe also has disadvantage. First, the construction period is long. Second, it’s difficult to change the inlet and outlet. Third, rigid pipe is hard to turn off. If turn off is necessary, you have to use elbows.
Normally, fresh air system need to combine the rigid and soft pipe. The main pipeline is rigid pipe, while the branches are hose.
