We know peristaltic pump is to transfer the fluid from one side to another side with the peristaltic hose. It’s same like we grip a hose which is full of fluid with our finger, the fluid flows as our finger slid forward. This transfer procedure is like a caterpillar writhe forward, so it called peristaltic pump.
But in order to quantify the fluid inside the peristaltic hose and to measure and time during the transfer, we replace our finger with roller. Thus we can make it certain how many there is in each section. We can control the fluid flowing speed only if we control the speed of roller. Peristaltic pump is to form a pillow-shape fluid in the peristaltic hose between the two rollers. The volume of “pillow” is according to the diameter of peristaltic hose. While the rotary speed and the volume of “pillow” determine the flow rate.
Compare the pumps with same rotary size, the pump that produce larger “pillow” volumes also deliver larger volumes of fluid per revolution. But the pulsation degree will be also large. While the pump that produce smaller “pillow” volumes deliver smaller volumes of fluid per revolution. Besides, the smaller “pillow” makes the fluid flow smoothly and steadily.
Here comes another question, how can we control it with the same roller speed. This refer to the peristaltic hose. That’s to say we can control the flow speed with peristaltic hose. Because different sizes of peristaltic hose cause different flow speed.
